About the Northwest Straits Initiative
Created in 1998, the Northwest Straits Initiative is premised on locally-based marine conservation and volunteer engagement. Through its work, citizens represent seven counties in northern Puget Sound on Marine Resources Committees (MRCs) that are the heart of the Initiative and its most valuable human resource. Together they find creative ways to address pressing local and regional issues, and carry out projects that protect and restore nearshore/marine ecosystems.
About the Conference
The Northwest Straits Initiative conference offers opportunities for networking, educational sessions and information on upcoming technologies relevant to the restoration of the Salish Sea. Sharing best practices makes our work more effective! We expect close to 200 volunteers and project partners to attend this year’s event — MRC members, tribal, state and federal natural resources managers, business interests, non-profit organizations and elected officials.
