Megan is a Freshman at Western Washington University planning to major in Marine and Coastal Science. She is a member of the Marine Science Scholars and the Honors Program. She loves all kinds of animals and competes on the Equestrian Team at Western. She is most passionate about local marine mammals and is excited about the opportunity to gain experience and connect with the marine science community.

Ellen is attending BTC for an Aquaculture Sciences Certificate following her years working hands-on at a shellfish farm on San Juan Island. When she’s not shucking and chatting about all things oysters she enjoys skiing, music, sharing meals, and spending time in and around the Salish Sea. She’s looking forward to broadening her abilities and connections within marine conservation, particularly in the shellfish and kelp realm.

Tabitha is a junior at Western Washington majoring in biology with an emphasis in marine sciences and minoring in environmental science and Salish Sea studies. Tabitha loves taking her dog for walks by the beach, exploring tide pools, and looking for cool rocks and shells. She is interested in marine ecology and understanding how climate change is impacting marine ecosystems. Tabitha is looking forward to becoming more involved in the marine conservation community and is excited for opportunities to get out in the field.

Hello, my name is Griffin Hemmelgarn! I am a 4th-year student at Western Washington University majoring in Environmental Studies. I fell in love with the Salish Sea bioregion quickly after moving to Washington from Colorado. I am passionate about habitat conservation and restoration. I am eager to be involved in fieldwork that will aid in improving the environment that I have come to love. In my spare time, you will find me biking, hiking, and watching movies.

When not in classes, she loves to travel and spend time in the beautiful outdoors skiing, paddleboarding, or hiking. Nikolai is a current undergraduate student at Western Washington University. He is studying Marine Environmental Science, with particular interests in invertebrate ecology and ocean acidification. He enjoys tidepooling, painting, and rock and mineral collecting in his free time. Her favorite organisms include sockeye salmon and Red Sea urchins. When not in school or swimming in the bay she plays rugby and rock climbs.

When not in class, he enjoys rock climbing, tidepooling, and going on hikes.
