The beach pea is a perennial plant that thrives in sandy beach environments, dunes, and coastal grasslands, and plays a vital role in stabilizing dunes and preventing erosion. 

Beach Pea produces clusters of delicate butterfly-shaped purple flowers, which give rise to legumes later in the season.  Branches are thin tendrils with opposite leaves.
