The elderberry plant is valued for attracting birds and butterflies and contributing to the biodiversity and food web dynamics of coastal habitats. 

Elderberry is a shrub that typically frows in moist, fertile soils.  It features large clusters of small, bright, white-pink flowers and black berries.  Leaflets are serrated and somewhat raindrop shaped. 

Note: If desired, Elderberry can be trimmed to promote treelike growth.
