Kinnikinnick, aka bearberry, is a hardy groundcover capable of growing in very sandy soils. Dense root systems provide erosion resistance, while flowers and berries support a wide range of native species, especially pollinators.  

Kinnikinnick grows in low mats and bears similar bell-shaped flowers to its cousin, salal. Berries are edible but not very tasty.
