Ocean Spray grows in open forests and on coastal bluffs.  They are often found in open or disturbed areas, such as logged sites and roadsides. 

Their leaves are oval-triangular with loved, double-toothed margins.  Their surfaces can be smooth or hairy, while their flowers are white and droop in lilac-like clusters.
