Puget Sound is teeming with life and beauty, but it takes hard work to keep it that way. Every year, we enlist thousands of volunteers and scientists who pull animals from decaying nets, plant native vegetation in marine habitats, and protect the shoreline from dangerous armory.

The Northwest Straits Initiative identified derelict fishing gear as a high priority in 1999 and removal operations began in 2002. Over time, the management of the program moved from the Northwest Straits Commission to the Northwest Straits Foundation.
